Pittsburgh is celebrating its 250th Anniversary all year. It will culminate in November—when the city got its name 250 years ago in November 1758.
To mark this historical event, the region is celebrating an elaborate, year-long celebration. For Pittsburgh is much more than a city. It’s an area in western Pennsylvania that spreads out from Pittsburgh as the spokes of a wheel do forming a metropolitan area and beyond. Included is Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and the cities and towns and communities to the south, east, west to Ohio, and north, up the I-79 corridor into the surrounding counties.
