Pittsburgh - Better than Imagined Pittsburgh is an exciting and unique destination—a great place to visit… whether on business or for pleasure. Steeped in history, it’s a great city that blends the traditional as well as a very contemporary and modern urban area. It’s a cityscape with modern sleek skyscrapers that pierce the sky together with award-winning architecture from another time and era. Downtown Pittsburgh is positioned at a point of land between two rivers that come together to form a third river. Known as The Golden Triangle, Downtown is bordered by the Allegheny River on the north, the Monongahela River to the south, and coming together to form the Ohio River. It’s an area with rivers and bridges, rolling hills and bluffs and valleys, full of woods and trees and parks, all of which contributes to the geography of the area. Just as Pittsburgh is uniquely positioned on the map, so it is in the hearts of its inhabitants or anyone who has ever called it home. Now remember this, you can call New Kensington, Aliquippa, McKeesport, Monroeville, or any number of places in Western Pennsylvania your home, but you’ll still say you’re from Pittsburgh. When you come to this city, you come to where incomparable renaissances have taken place. You’ll find a vibrant Cultural District and scene, ethnic charm, friendly people, attention getting architecture, and recreational opportunities. And oh yes, sports are taken pretty seriously around here. Across from Downtown and a short walk on the Roberto Clemente Bridge to the near North Shore is the best ballpark in the United States. At least that is what the Sports Network ESPN has said about PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Just a short distance away on the same shore is Heinz Field, home to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pitt Panthers. This issue of Pittsburgh Point magazine is a special issue and our 17th annual Destination Guide. It’s designed for you, the reader and the visitor to Pittsburgh. You’ll find the best sights and attractions, dining, and places to stay For many of you, your first view of Pittsburgh will be on a ride from the airport and emerging from the Ft. Pitt Tunnel. First timers say it’s better than imagined. We hope your visit is better than imagined. A. Robert Scott
