PUBLISHER'S PAGE - The Sunny Side of the Street I was taking a walk on the boulevard, the Boulevard of the Allies in downtown that is, to get from a restaurant to One Oxford Centre. It was March 30th to be exact and the temperature got up to 70 that day. After a cold, rainy, sometimes damp and snowy winter, I can’t tell you how welcome that day was. Walking that canyon between the tall buildings, however, it was quite chilly, even though the sun was shining brightly in the sky above. Then I realized I was walking on the side of the street that was in the shadows. Crossing the street for the remainder of the walk, it must have felt 10 to 15 degrees warmer in the sun. Sometimes just a little adjustment can make such a difference. Kind of like a mind adjustment or attitude change. Needless to say, on the return trip to my car, I remembered to walk on the sunny side of the street. Life is like that. A change here, a little tweaking, an adjustment to the sail, and things change for the better. In sports, we often see a manager or coach shake up his lineup thinking the change may break a slump or losing streak. They may even return to the basics or fundamentals. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. Make a change. About the Cover Arnold Palmer, the man who is generally given credit for putting golf on the map, is the honorary chairman for this year’s Senior PGA Championship at Laurel Valley in nearby Ligonier. The tournament will be played May 26-29 at the Western Pennsylvania club and Arnold will also be competing. Arnold Palmer exploded on the national scene in spectacular fashion in 1960 by charging from seven strokes back in the final round at the U.S. Open at Cherry Hills Country Club and ultimately winning. A legend was born. A consistent tournament winner for many years, other major wins for Palmer include the Masters Tournament four times (1958, 1960, 1962, 1964), and the British Open in 1961 and 1962. Last month, Tiger Woods tied Palmer for Masters wins. The highly respected Dapper Dan organization of Pittsburgh honored Arnold with its Lifetime Achievement Award at a sports dinner, April 17, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
