PUBLISHER'S PAGE - It’s a Hard Rock Thing

I It all began about 16 years ago when my wife and I had taken a Caribbean cruise to celebrate a wedding anniversary. St. Thomas was the port of call when the first purchase was made. Whether it was love at first sight or not, I really can’t say. It was a white T-shirt with a yellow sun on the front and red and the white inscription read Hard Rock CAFE. The name just beneath it said St. Thomas. When I saw one on someone else, I knew that’s what I wanted.

That was the beginning of a love relationship that has taken me from Barcelona to Dallas and from Phoenix to Cabo San Lucas with scores of stops in between.

It’s been serious. While my wife was shopping, I was running down the next Hard Rock Cafe to get my next T-shirt.

I won’t say there weren’t temptations along the way. There was an occasional brief flirtation along the way, like a Planet Hollywood here and there. But I always returned to the Hard Rock.

Early last month, my wife and I took a quick trip down to the Bahamas with a stop in Nassau on the island of New Providence. And yes, I had to find the local Hard Rock. Not to eat mind you, but to make my next souvenir purchases. There it was, right downtown, just off Bay Street on Charlotte Street. Three T-shirts, a ball cap, and a free souvenir shot glass for my troubles and I was out of there.

Well, this month is June and it’s about three years since Hard Rock came to Pittsburgh. Imagine my relief when I heard the Hard Rock was coming to Pittsburgh. Gee, we had the world famous Steelers teams here and yet I now felt we were validated as a city because Hard Rock had come to the ’burgh.

Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh is located right along the Monongahela River in Bessemer Court at Station Square, facing downtown. And it’s an impressive Hard Rock, indeed, with room to accommodate 302.

For more than 30 years, Hard Rock Cafe has embodied the spirit of rock music. However, Hard Rock Cafe is also equally known for its collectible and fashion merchandise featuring the Hard Rock signature logo, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, pins, jackets, caps, shot glasses, and much more.

Hard Rock merchandise, which has taken on an almost cult-like status and is sought after by travelers throughout the world, has become the authoritative memento representing a trip to a certain city or country.

Be sure to visit Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh and take the savings coupon with you from their ad in Point.
