PUBLISHER'S PAGE - Fat Head’s – A Happening Place on the South Side This is a time of the year when dining may be enjoyed either inside or outside.Strolling around Pittsburgh, Downtown,in the Strip District, or on the South Side, you’ll find tables set up outside like so many of the European restaurants do. Featured on this month’s cover of Pittsburgh Point magazine is Fat Head’s, located at 1805 East Carson Street in Pittsburgh’s Historic South Side, where one certainly has the choice of dining inside or out. Glenn Benigni, a local restaurateur and entrepreneur, opened in September l992 and has together with his wife Michelle, seen Fat Head’s evolve into a happening place on the South Side. From modest beginnings, an expansion four years ago more than doubled capacity to also include a patio for warm weather dining. Like the world-famous Cheers in Boston, you’ll find the well dressed professional as well as those in more comfortable and casual attire going into Fat Head’s. What makes this place so popular? Maybe the answer is in what Fat Head’s is not. For one thing, it is not some super fancy place where everyone appears to have been drinking lemon juice. And it is not fast-food, quick service either. So just take it easy. All of the items here are cooked to order. The menu includes a wide selection of headwiches (I think that is a sandwich that is relatively close to the size of one’s head. Headwiche!!!), sandwiches, burgers, wings, ribs, and more. Fat Head’s has won numerous awards, including Best Bar, Best Wings, Best Burger, and Best Beer Selection. Plan on enjoying some great food and a good cold beer. To go along with your meal, they have 39 imported and American beers on tap, including one hand-pumped real ale. New merchandise that markets this local and unique Pittsburgh establishment includes wearing apparel and shirts, accessories, caps, bobbleheads, stickers, mugs & glasses, and more. Come and check out Fat Head’s Beer Union 6-Pack Shop with over 250 superb beers and killer gear. Fat Head’s has received photos of people from all over the world wearing Fat Head’s stuff. Send your photo together with a message and see if you can be added to their special wall of infamy.
