Have a Great Visit

It was the first Saturday of last month and it was hot in town. I needed a picture for this month’s cover and decided, what with digital cameras and modern technology, to try this undertaking myself.

The Parkway East was under construction for the weekend and the detour I took added about fifteen minutes to the usual easy-going thirty minute drive from my home in the suburbs to the South Side.

The destination was East Carson Street on the South Side to take pictures of Fat Head’s for this month’s cover. It was midafternoon and the sun was just right to catch the colors of the three buildings unit.

I set up across the street with a small ladder and made ready for the job at hand.

I was surprised at all the activity on East Carson. First the cars and then the pedestrian traffic.

A hotel shuttle from the Sheraton Hotel Station Square came right to where I was positioned, dropped off passengers who headed directly for Fat Head’s.

Next came a taxi that dropped off its fares who immediately headed across the street to Fat Head’s.

A jeep also came by, and made a turn into the adjacent parking lot on what seemed like two wheels, and parked. The group that emerged, crossed the street and, you guessed it, went into Fat Head’s.

While taking the pictures, an employee inside the establishment told Glenn Benigni, the owner, that someone was across the street and up on a ladder taking pictures of his buildings.

Glenn recognized it was me, came over, and after exchanging some pleasantries, went back inside and returned with a cool refreshing drink for me. He then went back to work, and to the job of running his happening fun place on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

The Cubs were in town that weekend and a few of their fans were checking out, in no particular order, East Carson Street, South Side, and Fat Head’s.

Whenever you’re in town, you may want to include the aforementioned in your plans for sightseeing and dining.

Have a great visit!
